Woebley to Harmer Hill, UK
59 miles, 3,039 feet of climbing
Thanks to a good tailwind and relatively easy climbing, it was a fast, fun (and mostly dry) 59-mile ride to Harmer Hill. Because it was Sundà y morning and, therefore, nothing was open, there weren't any places to stop on the route for our cappuccino break. So, we just kept motoring along at a good pace. We had a few long but gentle climbs, but these grades seemed quite manageable after the steep climbs we encountered in the early days of the tour. In terms of precipitation, there wasn't much - just a few minor sprinkles here and there when the sky clouded up. On our rest day in Woebley, Art did an amazing job cleaning up our bikes of all the grime accumulated from all the rainy days, I was glad it didn't get all dirty again - at least for one day. We arrived in Harmer Hill just before 1:30 - too early for our hotel rooms to be ready, so we went and had a bite to eat at the pub adjacent to our hotel. Just after we arrived, it started to rain again. There's not much to do in Harmer Hill, so we had a quiet afternoon and evening chatting with our fellow riders and comparing notes on the day's ride. Most of us agree the UK ride has been spectacular, the UK people are the nicest you'll ever meet, the UK drivers are courteous, the UK food is fantastic, however, the UK weather - at least what we've experienced - absolutely sucks. This is not a complaint, it's just an observation. On a positive note, we purchased new rain covers for our bike shoes at the bike shop in Hereford, and they are the bomb. So, we've got that going for us.
