Day - West Yellowstone, Montana to Jackson, Wyoming
134 miles
6,000 ft. of climbing

West Yellowstone was cold, 32 degrees, but sunny. The route started out flat but soon turned up as we hit our first climb. It was just enough to warm us up. At the top of the climb we crossed the state line from Montana into Idaho.

Then a sweeping descent into a spectacular valley of Island Park with mountains on each side.

We continued south most of the day with rest stops in small towns or state parks. Mesa Falls was visible and I was able to take a picture.

Most of the roads we traveled on were low traffic which allowed us to ride two up and chat with fellow riders. Although there were warning signs we  did not see any wildlife.

Rain threatened occasionally, but none of us got rained on while riding. I did worry when I heard thunder as we reached the top of Teton Pass.

We reached the hotel, cleaned our bikes, retrieved our bags and found our rooms.  We met at 6:30 to walk to dinner at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar.  The food was great and the atmosphere delightful.

It did rain in Jackson while we were eating dinner. We walked to Moo’s ice cream parlor for dessert and the roads were wet but it had stopped raining.

  1. The picture of Island Park is about 2-3 miles from Tammy's family cabin (Henry's Lake is to the right.) I have done the climb out of West Yellowstone into Idaho many times. But then I would stop;)
